If you read my blog post titled “My Bucket List” you’d have seen #7 “Jump into Water from a Cliff”. I can now cross that one off the list because, I overcame fear and I DID IT!
Jonathan and I along with two friends (Adrienne & Jenel) went to Blue Hole on July 28, 2018. The original plan was Konoko Falls but we went with Blue Hole after deciding that we couldn’t handle the crowd at Konoko Falls. We endured a long walk (barefooted) from the entrance to the diving section. Before walking up to the cliff (to jump) I went through three phases:
- I’m not doing that;
- I’ll do it if you (Jonathan) do it – he declined;
- You know what, I’m doing it.
A few minutes passed and I decided I’ll do it by myself. Here’s the thing, I boldly walked up the steps to the cliff but when I got to the edge I became soooo fearful. It wasn’t even that high but looking down felt very terrifying. The fear I felt standing there was VERY surprising because I felt so determined and brave walking up those steps. But there I was, crippled with fear – I couldn’t turn back and I couldn’t jump. My body must have been saying “no way” to my brain because I had to be talking myself into it and counting to 3 a few times. Eventually, I did it. I confronted my fear and I did it, not once but TWICE. I’m glad I overcame the fear because it was the most blissful experience I’ve had.
The lesson I learned from it is that there is something amazing on the other side of fear. I’m not gonna let fear keep me from doing things I want to do. After all according to 2 Timothy 1:7,
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
