It’s summer and so it’s CAMP SEASON. This was my second favourite time of the year, it comes after Christmas time on my list. As a girl who has been to camp almost every summer since I was 6 years old, I can admit that I’m not fond of packing. I used to get so excited about camp, and then when I remembered I had to pack I got a bit sad. This often resulted in last minute packing which may have resulted in things being left at home. Luckily, I’ve learned a few tricks as a result of my procrastination that have helped me become a pro-packer for the one week away at camp.
CONSIDER THE NUMBER OF DAYS AND NIGHTS OF CAMP
Each camp runs from Saturday to Saturday i.e. 8 Days and 7 nights. The allotted bath time is also one time daily. Use this number to decide how many items to bring. Read on to find out how!
PICK OUT YOUR BOTTOMS
Bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts) are the base to most of my outfits. I suggest dividing the number of days in half and packing that many bottoms (4). It’s camp, I always repeat my bottoms. The same one I wear after bath time is usually worn the next day. Just be sure to pack ones that go with most of your wardrobe, blue denim works but you can also add black.
PICK OUT YOUR TOPS
I usually pack more tops than bottoms as these usually get messy a lot easier. I tend to pack one blouse per day (8) as a “just in case” mechanism and sweaters, cardigans & jackets are usually in addition. Make sure some your tops are in a traditional color palette as house colours are selected at camp. You can’t go wrong with primary colours (red, green, blue) and include some neutrals. (If you’ll be attending 5th camp I suggest you click here and send a message to the 5th camp Instagram page because they usually have themed activities.)
ADD ONE PIECE OUTFITS IF NEEDED (LADIES)
It’s summer, its warm and Manchester isn’t as cool as it used to be. Throw in 1-2 dresses girls and MODEST rompers (No romphim’s guys). These are easy to pack and come in handy when you want to just throw on one piece and go. Plus they help to cut down on the number of tops and bottoms.
FINISH WITH ACCESSORIES
SHOES! I typically bring 3-4 pairs of shoes, 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of church shoes (could double as banquet shoes), 1 pair of slippers (and or crocs) and 1 pair of dressy sandal. I usually pack jewellery (cosmetic not the very valuable) and makeup for church and the banquet to complete my look. Sometime I pack them in a pouch and keep that in a tote bag so that it doesn’t get lost in the suitcase/bag.
